Mission of the Faculty

To train highly qualified specialists by using intellectual, informational and material resources and advanced teaching technologies, as well as to accumulate and disseminate knowledge in the natural sciences and engineering.

Goals and Objectives

To ensure the quality of educational services through high-quality teaching, education and personal development of students as future professionals.

Main Areas of Activity

• training competent and competitive bachelor’s and master’s degree graduates within the Faculty’s educational programmes;
• introducing and using innovative scientific and pedagogical methods, information technologies and multimedia teaching tools in the educational process;
• actively involving undergraduate and master’s students in research activities;
• organising and improving the work of departmental branches as part of career guidance activities;
• developing human resources and the management system;
• expanding cooperation with leading national and international universities;
• maintaining close cooperation with employers and involving industry practitioners and international specialists;
• creating and developing modern educational and laboratory facilities and social infrastructure, as well as strengthening the material and technical resources of the Faculty;
• implementing a unified quality assurance policy.

Educational Programmes of the Faculty

Currently, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics provides education through bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes.

History of the Faculty

The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics is one of the oldest faculties of M. Utemisov West Kazakhstan University. It was established in 1932 as a department of A.S. Pushkin Uralsk Pedagogical Institute. In 1934, the department was reorganised into the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.

Over the years, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics has trained thousands of specialists who, through their dedicated and productive work, have contributed to the recognition and reputation of the University.

The Faculty takes pride in its teachers and graduates who participated in the Great Patriotic War, as well as its labour veterans who made a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty and the University. Among them are L.I. Beda, twice Hero of the Soviet Union; A.D. Taimanov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Academician; P.I. Tokarev; R.A. Mukanaliyeva; R.M. Maskeyev; P.K. Suetin; O.N. Stavkin; T.Zh. Nazirov; I.R. Stupak; Kh. Ibrashev, veteran of the Great Patriotic War; Kh.K. Kenzhegulov; G.A. Borisov; R.N. Gabidullin; Yu.F. Tumpurov; R.N. Abdulmanov; S.Kh. Internship and Professional Practice Bases

The Faculty’s internship and professional practice bases include secondary schools in Uralsk and the districts of the West Kazakhstan Region, as well as various enterprises and organisations.

Cooperation with Employers

The Alumni Association and the Employers’ Council provide significant assistance in the employment of the Faculty’s graduates.

The Faculty’s Employers’ Council includes E.M. Kusmurziyeva, A.V. Naumov, L.G. Cherykayev, V.A. Protasov, G.G. Utesheva, A.K. Islyamova, E.E. Kadyrov, A.K. Kizagaliyeva, E.Zh. Temirgaliyev, A.B. Yerkamesheva, E.N. Safullin, Zh. Shonbayev and D.G. Gabdullayev.

The Faculty cooperates with employers and professional practice organisations in various areas, including meetings, intellectual competitions and other educational activities. Employers also serve as reviewers, supervisors of teaching and professional practice, and members of final certification committees.

Alumni Association

The Faculty has established an Alumni Association to carry out joint activities based on the shared interests of its graduates.

The purpose of the Association is to contribute to the training of a new generation of specialists and to establish mutually beneficial relationships between the Faculty and its graduates.

The Alumni Association of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics includes:

The Association assists in organising alumni meetings in various formats, Open Days, professional practice placements, employment opportunities for graduates, anniversary reunions and various themed events.

Participation of Industry Practitioners in the Educational Process

The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics uses various forms of practitioner involvement in the educational process, including:

• dual education;
• academic and industrial internships;
• master classes;
• meetings with employers and human resources specialists;
• visits to enterprises and organisations.

Research Activities

Cooperation between the Faculty’s educational programmes and research centres contributes to the development of research activities.

The main areas of cooperation include:

• cooperation with universities in neighbouring countries and cities, including Moscow, Samara, Tolyatti, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd, Saratov, Orenburg and Novosibirsk;
• cooperation with universities in other foreign countries, including Germany and Poland.

Faculty members actively participate in conferences, publish articles in international scientific journals and review research papers submitted to international academic publications.

Students enrolled in the Faculty’s educational programmes traditionally win prizes in national and international subject Olympiads and competitions.

In addition to their academic activities, students actively participate in the University’s social and cultural life. They take part in vocal and dance groups at the student club, attend sports clubs and are members of the Zhasyl El student construction team.

The Student Dean’s Office actively participates in organising and conducting various educational, sporting and entertainment events. Every year, students of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics take part in university-wide events such as the Student Initiation Ceremony, Best Student Teacher Competition, Student Spring Festival, Health Spartakiad and many others, regularly winning prizes.
